Los Angeles, Calif-(June 17, 2019) – Consolidated Contracting presented STEM Preparatory Schools with a $1,000 check earlier this month for winning a charity basketball tournament in which they competed against administrators and teachers from several other charter schools in the city of Los Angeles. The check, awarded as a scholarship to one of STEM Prep's high-achieving students, supports the dream of a young woman named Alexis Henry to attend college this fall.

Henry is passionate about academics and sports. She graduated STEM Prep Academy making the honor roll every semester of high school. She is recognized as a California Project Lead the Way Scholar and received a Golden State Seal Merit Diploma. If that weren't enough, Henry was also awarded the Los Angeles City Section All-City Division V Co-Player of the Year for women's basketball.

"Alexis is the quintessential STEM Prep student. She is thoughtful, inquisitive, and ready to change the world and be an agent of change," said CEO and founder of STEM Prep, Dr. Emilio Pack.

STEM Prep was one of eight teams to participate in a 3-on-3 basketball tournament organized by Jerry Lopez, a strong advocate for charters and a member of Pacific Charter School Development (PCSD). Consolidated Contracting is currently working with Lopez and others at PCSD on another charter school in the Los Angeles area.

Naturally, when Consolidated Contracting team members heard about the tournament, they were excited. The original idea was to send some people to play, but those plans fell through. One of the company's division leaders, Rory Egan, sought out a different way to be part of the event – through a donation.

"When Jerry reached out to us, we immediately wanted to be involved," said Egan. "Charter schools align incredibly well with our desire as an organization to inspire the lives of those around us as well as our commitment to positive community involvement."

One of Consolidated Contracting's values is giving back to the community. From sending Christmas gifts to children around the world to hosting food drives, the employees stand behind the company and its wish to help others. Being a part of the charity basketball tournament for charter schools was just a natural fit.

"We are incredibly blessed to be able to do a small part in helping fulfill the dreams and hard work of a student like Alexis," said Egan.

Henry's dream will indeed come true this fall, as she will enroll in the University of Nevada, Las Vegas to study Kinesiology.
